OPEN CALL for SMCK ON REEL 2023 – Civilization Rebooted – The first video festival inspired by jewellery, design and applied art.

If our civilization perishes, or dies in a nuclear accident or war, how will it reemerge?
SMCK ON REEL 2023 – Civilization Rebooted invites artists, designers, crafters, curators, educators, gallerists and art professionals, working in the field of jewellery, object, wearable art, fashion, textile, ceramics, glass, and all forms of applied arts and crafts, to treat through the medium video topics, such as: climate change, environmental catastrophe, war, fear, death, rebirth, renaissance, recycling, new values and new aesthetics.
SMCK ON REEL 2023 – Civilization Rebooted videos will be screened in Weltraum, a multi-awarded art gallery in down town Munich, from Wednesday 8 March to Friday 10 March 2023. SMCK ON REEL will be also screened at Bayerischer Kunstgewerbeverein Munich (8 to 18 March)
SMCK ON REEL 2023 – Civilization Rebooted is curated by SMCK Magazine.
Reels – the art of the moving image – deploy the artist’s narrative and enable the public to understand better the maker’s background, work and message.
More than 85 international jewelry artists, designers, art institutions and collectives participated in SMCK ON REEL 2022 that took place in Munich, Vilnius, Bucharest, Leipzig, Hamburg and Kyiv. SMCK On Reel 2023 is scheduled to be screened in Munich Schmuck 2023, Legnica Silver Festival 2023 (Poland), Romanian Jewellery Week Bucharest etc.
How to participate:
1. Category: ARTISTS, DESIGNERS, CRAFTERS
There are three options to participate in SMCK ON REEL:
1. Submit a video you made in the last three years, along with a short biography and weblink. Participation fee: 160,00 euro payable in two installments).*
OR
2. Submit your concept along with a short biography and weblink. Attend a two day group workshop (28 and 29 January 2023) that will give you a lot of inspiration and technical advice on how to make your own professional video easily and without special equipment. Shoot your video and send it to us ready to be screened. Participation fee: 250,00 euro payable in two installments).
OR
3. Submit your concept along with a short biography and weblink. Attend three customized, individual meetings that will coach you to realize your idea and shoot your video, and also participate in the group workshop (28 and 29 January 2023). Shoot your video and send it to us ready to be screened. An one page presentation of your video and jewellery project in SMCK Magazine March 2023 issue is included in the fee. Participation fee: 320,00 euro payable in three installments).
No application fee is charged.

2. Category: INSTITUTIONS, GALLERIES, ART & DESIGN SCHOOLS
There are two options to participate in SMCK On Reel:
1. Submit a video you made in the last three years, along with a weblink (participation fee: 190,00 euro payable in two installments).
OR
2. Submit your concept. Attend three customized, individual meetings that will assist you to realize your idea and shoot your video. Shoot your video and send it to us ready to be screened. An one page presentation of your video project in SMCK Magazine March 2023 issue is included in the fee. Participation fee: 390,00 euro payable in three installments).
No application fee is charged.

SMCK Magazine #9 /will feature SMCK On Reel 2023 – Civilization Rebooted. The magazine comes out in early March 2023.
- Technical details for video submission:
1. VIDEO
- Make sure that you have sent us your original video file (not only the video link).
- The video file should be in the highest possible resolution (1920x1080px / 1080×1080 etc. / HD). We accept the video formats: mp4, mpeg4, m4v, mov.
- Your video needs to have a title (usually at the start) and the film credits (usually at the end of the video). Film credits may contain: artist’s name, assistants, sound/music, website link…
2. STATEMENT & BIO
- Please send us a short statement/text about your video with maximum 120 words.
- Please also send us a (very) short bio with maximum 120 words.
3. PHOTO(S)
- Send us minimum one photo / maximum up to 4 photos of your jewellery work for SMCK Magazine and the SMCK On Reel website.
- The photo(s) have/has to be of good quality and in the highest possible resolution.
- Along with your photo(s), please send the captions, including title, year, category (brooch, necklace, etc.) material, technique of the work – plus the name of the photographer.
Attachments smaller than 20MB can be sent directly to our e-mail: magazine@smck.org.
For files larger than 20MB, please use any file sharing service (WeTransfer etc.).
Please try to compile the requested material in one file.
